City Bus Driver Violently Attacked by Woman Over Fare Dispute in Los Angeles

 

A Los Angeles city bus driver was violently attacked by a woman over a fare dispute.

Incident Highlights

The incident occurred on Sunday, May 6th, 2024 around 12:50 pm near South Central Avenue and Jefferson Boulevard in Los Angeles. An eyewitness video captured the violent attack, showing a woman punching the LADOT (Los Angeles Department of Transportation) bus driver at least once in the face and attempting to tear her uniform. The dispute arose when the bus driver informed the woman that she did not need to pay the fare since DASH buses operated by LADOT offer free rides.

The woman became agitated and violently attacked the driver over this fare dispute.

After the altercation, the bus driver managed to close the doors and continue her journey, escaping without severe injuries. The Los Angeles Police Department later apprehended the suspect who attacked the bus driver. In response, LADOT stated they are looking into better protections and potential security enhancements, such as reinforcing barriers between drivers and passengers, to ensure the safety of their transit services.
